You never see the driver. You never forget him.
“Duel” is Steven Spielberg before Spielberg became Spielberg. A young director with a TV budget and a gigantic truck as the villain. Starring: Dennis Weaver, sweating, driving, fighting. The driver remains unseen. Brilliant: that makes him stronger.
In 1973, the film had its German premiere at the Berlinale. 50 years later it returned – this time as an homage. Now with us. Because a good film never rusts.
The Autopapst shows why this is not a horror film – but a character study on asphalt.
