There are people who travel to see new places.
And there are people like Thomas Becher, who learn along the way – about landscapes, about machines, about themselves.
Thomas has been travelling since the early 1980s. It all began with the R 80 G/S. From there, the road took him east, up to Norway, across the Balkans, later through Southeast Asia and India. He has been on the road for more than four decades – and his loyal companion is almost always the same: a naked BMW Boxer motorcycle.
He is never in a hurry. He collects experiences.
Dust. Stories. Kilometres. And again and again: freedom.
His talk is not a technical lecture and not a checklist of equipment. It is about something else: about travelling itself. About being on the road, the wind, the humility before the things that are larger than we are. About the people along the way, the small moments that carry you forward. About beginnings, breakdowns, fixing what is broken. And about how the world has changed – and how we change with it.
Thomas says: “You can learn from the road.”
And after a few sentences, you understand what he means.
The images he brings were taken over 42 years of adventure. You can feel dust, heat, rain, loneliness and joy in them. No glamour. No filter. Just life.
Those who love motorcycles will recognise themselves. Those who have never ridden a GS will still feel what it is about: curiosity, courage, and that strange longing that begins when the engine is warm and the road is open.
